Needy

Disaster class presented it's second original show in late September 2025 with needy.

Needy is a dark comedy following Fin who, after experiencing the traumatic death of his housemate, finds himself in a service station and meets Owen, the station cashier, who is bored of living a life where he feels he has no control. They both see their meeting as an opportunity to fill a hole, and Fin offers to prostitute himself for a place to stay. After a night together, Fin realises their connection is a pretty good distraction from the trauma he’s experienced and chases this high, going to great lengths to make sure this relationship works. We come to realise this relationship is maybe the only “good” thing in Fin’s life, but due to the sudden intensity, followed by a run in with the police, Owen calls it off. Feeling lost, Fin holds a seance with his dead housemate to ask for relationship advice, which sends him down a path of dangerous, stalker-like behaviour. Ultimately, this ends in a final showdown between the two, that could result in a happy ending or a fatal one. It’s a play that covers themes of trauma, intimacy and loneliness, and what happens when the support you need isn’t quite there.

Originally performed at the Golden Goose Theatre, Camberwell 30th September and 1st October.

A Message From the Writer

Needy is all about what we desire and need deep down. I really wanted to explore how driving forces such as loneliness and desire can take over our and convince us to do things which we usually might not.

When you have nobody, what are the lengths you will go to, to fill that hole? I also want people to question their own morality, question what they would do in that situation and who they believe is right.
